About Us
Have you heard about TEF?  TEF is the Topsfield Education Foundation. It is a not for
profit group founded to help facilitate the best educational experience possible for
both Proctor and Steward schools.  For over ten years, with TEF’s vision and funding,
the foundation has assisted the Topsfield schools in funding the following programs:

PROCTOR BAND:  2008-09 cost $15,000
  • TEF has been the sole supporter of the band program which is a fee-based, privately supported
program at Proctor School.  3 years ago, TEF created the band boosters to make sure band was not
eliminated by committing to funding the yearly deficit not covered by band fees.

New! STEWARD SCHOOL INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC PROGRAM:  2009 cost-$12,000
  • TEF has just committed funding a third grade Introduction to Instrumental Music Program at Steward
School starting this fall 2009.  This one time TEF grant of $12,000 will cover the purchase of clarinets,
trumpets, and other instruments for this exciting full year music curriculum for third grade students.
This will replace the current third grade music program.

CPO SCIENCE PROGRAM: 2008-2009 cost-$11,470
  • Patsy Eldridge, A National Consultant for CPO Science, comes in throughout the year at Proctor
School as a part of a Scientist in Residence grant paid solely by TEF. For three years, Ms. Eldridge
has provided top quality physics education support unique to Proctor School. She develops the
school’s hands on curriculum, materials, and experiments that make grades 4-6 science programs
exciting and challenging.      TEF also pays for a teacher science coordinator at Proctor.

TECHSPLORATION PROGRAM:  2008-2009 cost-$6,515.
  • Techsploration, Inc. engages Proctor students in 3 full days of workshops in technology, science,
and problem solving in a fun and exciting way.  TEF took over TESPTO funding of this great physics
program for the past 2 years.

New! PROCTOR PRESS NEWSPAPER:   2008-09 cost $100.
  • TEF proudly has given a BRAVO grant to the sixth grade Proctor School newspaper after school
program.  We are fortunate to have such great teachers that go the extra mile to make writing
creative and fun.  The newspaper is run by Mrs. Lantz and it encourages the whole school to get
    involved.

FIRST Lego League (FLL) TEAMS:  2008-09 cost $5,500.
  • TEF runs the FLL robotics after school program that ignites an enthusiasm for discovery, science,
and technology.  Each year FLL teams embark on an adventurous challenge based on current real-
    world issues.
  • TEF also sponsored and ran the first ever North Shore Regional FLL Tournament this year. This entire
program is fully funded and run by TEF through corporate and family sponsors.

New! Junior FIRST Lego League (JFLL) Teams 2008-09 Cost $800.
  • TEF runs JFLL teams for 3rd and 4th graders. With the JFLL science afterschool program, children
are introduced to basic engineering skills through a hands-on approach with the fun of LEGO
building.  The team approach also encourages a culture of sharing and learning from others through
    group researching a scientific topic.

Hopefully you now know a little more about TEF and how vital we are to the Topsfield
Elementary Schools.  We are thankful that we are supported through generous
donations from families, corporations, and endowment funds.  All donations to TEF are
tax deductible and go directly to school programs.  With the holidays approaching, you
can make a gift donation to TEF in the name of someone special.  Or perhaps
volunteer your time in support of our different programs. Funding is essential for TEF
to be able to commit to long term funding for the programs that make our children’s
education outstanding.
