First Lego League

FIRST Lego League (FLL)
is a global program created to get kids excited about science and engage them in research, problem solving, and engineering. The cornerstones of the program are its Core Values, which emphasizes contributions of others, friendly sportsmanship, learning, and community involvement.  FIRST stands for "For Inspiration and Recognition of Science  and Technology.

Topsfield FLL Teams:
Teams are open to children 10-14 years old.  Children should have a love of technology, science, computers, and must be able to work independently as well as handle themselves productively in a team environment.

Teams will meet once a week from October to December with additional meetings allotted to do research and robot programming.  The season will end with a Saturday full day tournament in December.

FLL Overview:
FIRST Lego League (FLL) is an exciting and fun global robotics program that ignites an enthusiasm for discovery, science, and technology.  Each year FLL teams embark on an adventurous Challenge based on current real-world issues.  Guided by team coaches, the kids:

  • Research and solve a real-world problem based on the challenge theme
  • Present their research and solutions in the form of a group project
  • Build an autonomous robot using engineering concepts

Using the yearly Challenge, FLL:

  • Entices kids to think like scientists and engineers
  • Provides a fun, creative, hands-on learning experience
  • Teaches kids to experiment and overcome obstacles
  • Builds self esteem and confidence
  • Inspires kids to participate in science and technology
